Portable Hardness Testing

Portable hardness Testing

The main purpose of hardness testing is to determine the suitability of a material for a given application.

Conventional hardness testers, like Rockwell, Brinell or Vickers machines, require the test piece be brought to the testing device, but this is not always possible.

Portable hardness testing devices have been developed that permit in-situ hardness measurements thus offering quick and economical supplements to conventional, stationary testing machines.

At MTE, we have a Proceq portable hardness tester capable of testing using Leeb, Rockwell and Vickers hardness scales. The Proceq Equotip enables portable hardness inspection of almost any object, polished parts, and heat-treated surfaces. The hardness measurements are made by using the dynamic rebound testing method according to Leeb, the static Portable Rockwell hardness test and the Ultrasonic Contact Impedance (UCI) method. The rugged Swiss-made metal NDT hardness testers are designed for portable hardness testing in the lab, in the workshop, at production facilities or on site.
